The ninth conference of the International Santhal Council is set to take place at the Santoshini High School ground in Siliguri's Phansidewa on April 24 and 25. The two-day event is expected to be a significant celebration of Santhal traditions, history, and culture. In a landmark moment for the community, President Draupadi Murmu will be attending the event as the chief guest.
Preparations are underway in full swing to welcome dignitaries and guests from across the country. The organizers have confirmed that the Chief Ministers of both West Bengal and Sikkim have been invited to the grand conference, highlighting the event’s regional importance and cultural significance.
The Santhal Council’s conference aims to put the spotlight on the rich heritage of the Santhal community and other indigenous groups. According to the event schedule, the conference will be organized into eight major segments, each designed to showcase different aspects of traditional life, rituals, arts, crafts, and community achievements.
Cultural performances, discussions on tribal rights, exhibitions of indigenous crafts, and community dialogues are expected to be a part of the program. Local entrepreneurs and community leaders believe that President Murmu's presence — being the first tribal woman President of India — will inspire the youth and lend national recognition to their ongoing cultural revival efforts.
