College security guard held over Kolkata student's alleged gang-rape case; 4th arrest so far
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has launched an aggressive campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), taking direct cues from an open letter written by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In a four-page note addressed to the people of West Bengal, Mamata has sharply criticized the ‘communal politics’ of the BJP-RSS combine and urged citizens to reject division and hatred.
Released to the public on Saturday night, the letter had already been circulated internally among TMC workers, leaders, and branch organizations. According to party insiders, the letter serves not only as a political statement but also as a strategic campaign blueprint for grassroots leaders across the state.
The letter focuses heavily on recent communal tensions in districts like Murshidabad, especially in Jangipur—areas that have seen unrest following the Waqf Amendment Act. Mamata has blamed the Sangh Parivar for spreading “lies and provocation” and warned citizens not to fall into the trap of communal polarization.
TMC leaders have been instructed to use the language and tone of Mamata’s letter in public rallies, leaflets, and speeches. The aim is to unify voters across communities and frame the BJP as a divisive force ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Trinamool leaders have begun campaigns in their respective areas, echoing the Chief Minister’s appeal for peace and harmony.
In her letter, Mamata wrote, “Please do not believe their words. We all want to live together. They want to divide us for narrow electoral gains.” She also contrasted Bengal with BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Manipur, claiming that Bengal has upheld constitutional values and secularism where others have failed.
The BJP has hit back sharply. Shankar Ghosh, the BJP Legislative Party leader in the state, accused Mamata of playing politics over administration. “She has failed to control law and order and is now blaming the opposition and a non-political organization to cover her failure,” he said. He further demanded the Chief Minister’s resignation, alleging that she is misguiding the public for electoral advantage.
