SC says probe against Ranveer Allahbadia complete, to consider passport return on April 28

The Supreme Court on Monday noted that the investigation against podcaster and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, was complete. The court said it would hear his plea seeking the return of his passport on April 28.

The development comes after Allahbadia was granted interim protection from arrest in February over multiple FIRs filed against him for allegedly vulgar comments made during a YouTube show. The court had directed him to deposit his passport with the investigating officer of the Nodal Cyber Police Station in Thane.

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh recorded the statement by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who said the investigation in the Mumbai FIR was complete but a chargesheet was pending, while in the Guwahati FIR, only the statement of one co-accused remained to be recorded.

The court also noted that Allahbadia’s podcast, The Ranveer Show, had been allowed to resume from March 3, provided the content adhered to norms of morality and decency, making it appropriate for viewers of all ages.

The controversy stemmed from Allahbadia’s remarks on parents and sex during comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show India's Got Latent, which led to public outrage and multiple police complaints across states. Alongside Allahbadia, others like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija were also named in related FIRs.

Initially, the apex court had sharply criticised Allahbadia’s comments, calling them "vulgar" and "shameful," but provided interim protection acknowledging that fundamental rights should be preserved even while legal proceedings are underway.
