Kashinath Mandal, a resident of Baligori in New Town, allegedly died by suicide after losing 21 acres of land in a suspected fraud. The family stated that Mandal had planned to sell 5 acres to overcome financial hardship but dishonest traders allegedly sold all 21 acres, including the land where their house stood. The family was forced to move into a rented home.
According to the family, the traders grabbed the additional plots without informing them. They said the matter was reported to the local Patharghata Panchayat and MLA Tapas Chatterjee, but no action was taken. Mandal became mentally distressed after the land loss and was found hanging on the disputed land on Monday morning.
The family has announced plans to file a written complaint at the Technocity Police Station in connection with the incident. They allege that despite informing relevant authorities, no action was taken to address the matter and lack of intervention led to Mandal’s death.
