In response to the tragic terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday. Expressing deep concern over the loss of life and injuries in the Anantnag district incident, the Prime Minister directed Shah to ensure immediate reinforcement of security in the region.
Modi emphasized that every effort must be made to track down those responsible for the attack and bring them to justice. He also asked Shah to visit the attack site personally to assess the ground situation and oversee the response from central forces and the local administration. The Prime Minister later took to social media to express his anguish and commitment to counter-terrorism.
“I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger,” Modi tweeted.
Following the Prime Minister’s directive, Amit Shah immediately departed for Srinagar. He was joined by Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who returned from the national capital, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, and several other senior officials.
Shah left on a special flight from Delhi’s IGI Airport and is expected to visit Anantnag and Pahalgam to review security arrangements and meet with local security forces and administration. His visit comes amid heightened tensions in the Kashmir Valley after multiple injuries and one fatality in the terrorist attack that targeted tourists.
Authorities are maintaining high alert in the region as security forces continue search operations to trace the perpetrators. Additional reinforcements have been deployed, and civilian safety remains a top priority for central and state authorities.
