Acting on secret information, a team of the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal conducted a raid during the night of April 28-29, 2025, near Sishona Das Para under Basirhat Police Station limits. During the operation, two individuals — Diptajit Sen (29 years) and Kajal Mukherjee (40 years), both residents of Choto Jirakpur in Basirhat — were arrested on charges of involvement in illegal arms trading.
Upon interrogation, both accused confessed to concealing illegal firearms and ammunition at their respective residences. Acting on their statements, the STF team conducted searches at their houses. At the residence of Diptajit Sen, one pistol and a large quantity of live ammunition were recovered. At the residence of Kajal Mukherjee, another pistol and a significant number of live cartridges were seized.
The total recovery from the operations included two 7mm semi-automatic pistols, 132 rounds of 7.65mm live ammunition, 115 rounds of .32 caliber live ammunition, and 5 rounds of 9mm live ammunition. Altogether, 252 rounds of ammunition were seized from the two locations.
Following the seizure, a specific case has been initiated at Basirhat Police Station based on a complaint filed by the STF. Both accused are scheduled to be produced before the Learned Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Court, Basirhat, today.
