The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has arrested two individuals, including a civic volunteer, with 234 grams of morphine in the Naxalbari police station area. The arrested have been identified as Shyam Lal Singh, a resident of Mallabari in Naxalbari, and Sahadev Barman, a resident of Kamalajote in Naxalbari. Among them, Shyam Lal is employed as a civic volunteer at the Naxalbari police station.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, the SSB conducted an operation late Monday night in Bengaijote, Naxalbari, and intercepted two youths riding a bike. During a search, 234 grams of morphine were recovered from their possession. The duo was traveling from Naxalbari towards Panitanki on the motorcycle.
The SSB handed over the accused to the Naxalbari police for further action. Darjeeling District Superintendent of Police, Pravin Prakash, confirmed that the two youths were arrested with narcotic substances by SSB personnel, one of whom is a civic volunteer. Action has been initiated against both accused.
