BSF foils major smuggling attempt at India-Bangladesh border, seizes drugs, silver, livestock, and arrests 5

In a series of successful operations, the Border Security Force (BSF) has foiled multiple smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh border, with significant seizures of illegal goods and the arrest of five smugglers. These operations were conducted across various locations in Murshidabad and North 24 Parganas districts, marking a successful counteraction to cross-border smuggling activities.

On April 29, at the BSF's 73rd Battalion border outpost in Bamanabad, Murshidabad, BSF personnel spotted suspicious footprints along the riverbank. Following the trail, the jawans apprehended three Indian smugglers hiding in a nearby bush. The arrested smugglers were found with 590 bottles of Fensidyl and two mobile phones. During questioning, the smugglers revealed they were hired to deliver the drugs to Bangladesh in exchange for ₹10,000 each.

Later the same evening, at the BSF's 146th Battalion border outpost in Jalangi, Murshidabad, another surprise raid was carried out. Based on intelligence inputs, BSF personnel arrested a Bangladeshi smuggler attempting to enter India illegally. The smuggler was caught with 7.3 kg of cannabis, one bottle of foreign liquor, and six mobile phones. This operation further highlights the ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities along the India-Bangladesh border.

In a third operation that day, BSF personnel at the 143rd Battalion’s Hakimpur border post in North 24 Parganas arrested a local smuggler from the village of North Para. Upon investigation, 20.5 kg of silver jewelry and nine mobile phones were recovered from his possession. The total value of the seized silver jewelry is estimated at ₹16.55 lakh. The smuggler claimed that the items were handed over to him for temporary storage in exchange for ₹10,000.

In addition to the major drug and silver seizures, the BSF's operations also resulted in the liberation of eight cattle from illegal animal smugglers. These cattle were being transported unlawfully across the border. The seizure of such large quantities of goods underscores the scale of the smuggling operations that the BSF is working to dismantle.

The ongoing operations at the India-Bangladesh border also saw the seizure of smaller amounts of contraband. In separate incidents across Murshidabad, Malda, and North 24 Parganas, BSF seized 840 grams of silver jewelry, 467 bottles of Fensidyl, and 25 fish pinballs. These additional seizures further highlight the multifaceted nature of the smuggling network operating at the border.

The arrested smugglers, along with the confiscated items, have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action. The BSF continues to enhance its vigilance and operational strategies to combat cross-border smuggling and ensure the integrity of India's borders.
