A serious security lapse was exposed on Friday when a tin shed flew off dangerously close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s helicopter during its landing in Rajgir, Nalanda district. The CM was visiting the region to inaugurate new sports facilities at the Rajgir Sports Academy. Fortunately, the tin sheet missed the helicopter, and a potential accident was narrowly avoided.
The incident occurred as Nitish Kumar’s chopper descended onto the designated landing site. The gusts of wind generated by the rotor blades caused a nearby tin shed to become airborne. Officials and security personnel present on site were visibly alarmed as the tin came within striking distance of the helicopter.
Despite the scare, the CM's helicopter landed safely. However, the event has raised questions about negligence in the security arrangements and planning. Given that the CM’s visit and the landing site were pre-decided, the presence of a loosely placed tin shed near the helipad has been termed an “avoidable oversight.”
CM Nitish was in Rajgir to inaugurate newly constructed international-standard sports facilities, including indoor halls and courts for basketball, volleyball, and handball. The state government has envisioned the academy as a hub for athlete training and youth sports development.
Experts point out that strong wind during helicopter landings can cause lightweight materials to become airborne. It is standard protocol to ensure the surrounding area is cleared of such hazards, especially during high-profile movements. The presence of the tin structure near the helipad has triggered criticism of the local administration’s preparedness.
