Monsoon to arrive early in Bengal, hits Andaman 16 days ahead of schedule: MeT

After a brief respite last week, the oppressive heat and discomfort have made a strong comeback in Kolkata since Tuesday morning. As the day has progressed, the feeling of unease due to the sultry weather has only intensified, and meteorological predictions suggest that temperatures are set to climb further in the coming days.

Amidst this sweltering heat, there's a ray of hope on the horizon as the Alipore Meteorological Department has shared significant and encouraging news regarding the monsoon's progression. The much-awaited seasonal rains have officially made their entry, signaling a potential shift in weather patterns.

The Met Office confirmed that the monsoon has arrived over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. More specifically, meteorologists highlighted that the monsoon reached the Nicobar Islands a remarkable 16 days ahead of its typical schedule, a development that many will welcome.

Consistent with this early arrival, monsoon showers have also commenced over the South Andaman Sea. This indicates that the monsoon current is active and beginning its northward journey. The forecast suggests that the monsoon is expected to spread further, covering more areas by May 13th.

However, for those eagerly awaiting relief in other parts of the country, the wait continues for now. The Alipore Meteorological Department has clarified that there is currently no specific forecast for the onset of the monsoon over Kerala or, more locally, for Bengal at this moment.
