A major burglary took place at a residence on Private Road in Dumdum, where an estimated ₹10–12 lakh in cash and gold ornaments were stolen. The house belongs to Biswajit Pal, a rubber factory owner, who had left for Mumbai with his wife and son on April 27. Upon returning, the family found the main door broken, rooms ransacked, and jewelry boxes scattered on the bed. According to Pal, the stolen items included gold jewelry and a large amount of cash.
The incident came to light when the family’s in-laws arrived at the house and noticed the door lock was broken. A total of three cupboards were found forced open. The family has alleged that the thieves switched on the air conditioner and consumed sweets kept in the refrigerator during the burglary. The rear door of the house was found open, suggesting that the thieves may have used it to exit after committing the crime.
A formal complaint has been lodged at the Nagerbazar Police Station. Local police have begun an investigation and are in the process of collecting CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the accused. The break-in and theft have caused panic in the locality. As of now, no arrests have been made and police teams are working to trace the suspects.
