The state enforcement branch task force conducted inspections at major wholesale markets in Kolkata, including Sealdah Kole Market and Ultadanga wholesale hub, to check for any hoarding or black marketing activities amid rising war-related concerns. The raids followed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's prior directives issued in November, aimed at preventing artificial inflation during conflict situations.
On Monday, officials entered Ultadanga wholesale market after completing an inspection at Sealdah two days earlier. According to task force members, no evidence of black marketing was found during these operations. The team stated that inspections are being carried out as a precautionary measure in view of possible market manipulation linked to the tense atmosphere.
The task force clarified that since the launch of these market operations under government orders, no trader has been able to exploit the situation for profiteering. They confirmed that the campaign is ongoing and more inspections will be conducted across other wholesale markets in the city.
