South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
A fatal accident occurred this morning on National Highway 12 in Samsherganj, near the Balasaran intersection. A lorry, traveling from Jangipur to Farrakka, lost control and overturned into a pit. The driver, identified as Angkur Roy, 39, from Harinaghat, Nadia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cleaner, Ramkrishna Karmakar, was injured and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Samsherganj police arrived promptly at the scene and secured the area. The body of the deceased driver was recovered and sent for post-mortem. Authorities believe that the crash was caused by loss of control, though they are yet to confirm the exact reason.
Local police have initiated an investigation into the incident. They are focusing on the possibility of speed and weather conditions contributing to the accident. The highway has been cleared for normal traffic, and the situation is under control.
