Man killed while trying to stop robbery of Rs. 12 lakh at businessman's home in South 24 Pgs

A 32-year-old man, Govinda Panja, was killed while trying to prevent a robbery at the home of a local businessman in South 24 Parganas on Sunday night. The incident occurred in the Panakua area under the Bishnupur police station. Govinda, a resident of the area, was shot by a group of armed criminals who raided the residence of Shankar Dhara, a wholesale chicken trader. Dhara’s house, located in the Dwara Para area of Panakua Gram Panchayat, has been previously targeted in robberies.

According to Shankar Dhara, he had been the victim of a robbery a month ago when 12 lakh rupees were stolen from his shop after he suffered an injury to his head. On Sunday, the robbers managed to loot six lakh rupees from his home. Dhara’s worker, Debashish Paramanik, regularly collects money from various places, and this cash was stored at Dhara’s residence. The robbery took place when Dhara’s wife or daughter hung a bag from the window, a routine for collecting the money.

During the attempted robbery, Govinda Panja intervened in an effort to stop the criminals. However, in the ensuing confrontation, he was shot and died from his injuries. The police have launched a full investigation into the incident, working to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
