South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
A local train on the Bangaon line derailed while entering Dum Dum station around 12:10 PM on Tuesday, causing panic among passengers and temporary disruption of rail services. Four wheels of the train came off the tracks just as it was approaching platform number four.
According to officials, the derailment occurred due to a mechanical fault while the train was slowly pulling into the platform. Thankfully, because of the low speed, a major accident was averted, and no casualties have been reported.
Railway authorities responded swiftly to the incident, rerouting other trains to avoid service disruptions. The affected Bangaon local was quickly stabilized, and currently, train movement on an alternate line has been arranged to maintain traffic flow through Dum Dum.
Technical teams were dispatched to the site shortly after the derailment. Initial inspection suggests track misalignment or a wheelset issue, but a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
