A female police officer was attacked while attempting to prevent a forced marriage of a minor in Howrah's Jagatballabhpur area. The incident occurred late last night during a raid at a wedding ceremony. The minor, 16-year-old Prema Ishwar from Khanakul, was allegedly being married against her will to 22-year-old Sandeep Paramanik. Police intervened after receiving information about the illegal marriage, and a mild lathi charge was used to control the situation.
During the raid, Mamsumitra Paramanik, the groom's mother, attacked a police officer with a sharp object, injuring the officer's neck. Four individuals, including the groom's family members, have been arrested in connection with the forced marriage and the attack on the police officer. The arrested persons are facing charges related to the forced marriage, assault, and obstruction of justice.
The police officer, whose name has not been disclosed, was taken to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have emphasized their commitment to taking strong legal action in this case. The incident has raised concerns about child marriages and the need for effective measures to protect minors in the region.
