A severe storm hit several villages in Ghurnigaon Gram Panchayat, located in Chopra Panchayat Samiti of Uttar Dinajpur district, on Wednesday night. The storm caused extensive damage including uprooted trees, damaged houses, and fallen electric poles, disrupting normal life across villages such as Asramgachh, Jagathara, Lal Bazar, Chaklagachh, and Gorayat Basti. The wind speeds were reported to be very strong and sudden, leading to widespread destruction.
Following the storm, Sakimul Islam, Deputy Head of Ghurnigaon Gram Panchayat, along with local representatives, visited the affected villages to assess the damage. He assured the affected families of support during the recovery process. The inspection aimed to evaluate the immediate needs of the residents and coordinate relief measures accordingly.
Efforts are currently underway to restore electricity and clear debris to enable relief work. Local authorities are focused on providing assistance to the storm-affected areas and planning necessary rehabilitation steps. The incident highlights the impact of sudden severe weather on rural infrastructure in the region.
