On Sunday evening, Jalpaiguri police recovered 53 kilograms of ganja from a private passenger bus at the Goshala Mor checkpoint. The bus was traveling from Cooch Behar to Jalpaiguri when it was stopped for a routine inspection. During the search, officers found seven bags containing ganja concealed under the seats.
Five individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure, including three women. The arrested persons had boarded the bus carrying the bags from different areas and are suspected of trafficking ganja. The detainees are residents of various locations in Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri.
Jalpaiguri district police superintendent Umesh Khandbahale stated that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. The police are probing the supply chain and other details related to the drug trafficking operation in the region.
