AIDSO-TMCP clash during strike over police action on teachers; Protests at key campuses

The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) called a statewide student strike on May 15 in protest against the police action on qualified teachers and teaching staff demonstrating at Bikash Bhavan demanding reinstatement in schools. Supporters of AIDSO held sit-ins at several institutions across West Bengal, including at the gates of Yogmaya Devi College and Jadavpur University’s Gate No. 4. Protesters voiced support for the teachers who were allegedly assaulted during the demonstration.

A clash broke out at the College Street campus gate of Calcutta University between AIDSO supporters and members of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) during the protest. The situation was brought under control after police arrived at the spot. AIDSO’s call for a strike led to student demonstrations in various parts of the state, with participants demanding action against the alleged police assault and the reinstatement of eligible teachers in schools.
