The recently repaired section of the Atreyee Dam near Balurghat collapsed again on Tuesday morning. The dam had initially broken in February, prompting urgent repair work by local authorities. Despite these efforts, the structure failed once more, raising concerns about its stability.
Continuous rainfall in the region has led to a rise in the water level of the Atreyee River. Locals report that the increasing water volume is putting additional pressure on the damaged dam. Residents fear that if the water level continues to rise, the damaged section may collapse completely.
Authorities have not yet released an updated statement on the situation or emergency measures. The potential failure of the dam poses a risk to the adjacent villages, which could be affected by flooding if the breach widens.
