IPL 2025 finals likely to move to Ahmedabad from Kolkata's Eden Gardens

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a major change in venue for the final stages of IPL 2025. The iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad — the world’s largest cricket stadium — will now host both the Qualifier 2 and the grand Final of the tournament.

As per the revised schedule, Qualifier 2 will be held on Sunday, June 1, between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator. The highly-anticipated Final, which will decide the champion of the 18th edition of the TATA IPL, is set to be played on Tuesday, June 3 at the same venue.

The BCCI explained the rationale behind these changes, stating that the decision to relocate the playoffs was taken by the IPL Governing Council, which considered weather conditions and several other logistical factors before finalising the new venues.

In a related update, IPL Match No. 65 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has also been shifted from Bengaluru to Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. The move comes in response to unfavourable weather forecasts in Bengaluru during the scheduled time of the match.

To mitigate any rain delays or interruptions, the BCCI has further announced an extension of playing hours. Starting May 20, all remaining league stage matches — like the playoff games — will have an additional one-hour buffer included in their playing conditions.
