50 dead in 32 hours as deadly storm hits Delhi-NCR and UP

A deadly storm swept across Delhi-NCR and 21 districts of Uttar Pradesh, claiming 50 lives over a span of just 32 hours. Official data confirms the deaths of 33 men and 17 women due to storm-related incidents, including lightning strikes, collapsing structures, and uprooted trees.

The storm, which began late Wednesday night, brought intense winds and widespread lightning, triggering chaos across urban and rural areas alike. Cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Moradabad were among the worst hit, witnessing major power outages, blocked roads, and damaged buildings.

Authorities reported widespread structural destruction, including collapsed homes and damaged public infrastructure. Fallen trees and snapped electricity lines worsened the situation, causing hours-long blackouts and severe disruptions to road transport.

Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing, with local administrations assessing damage and providing emergency aid. Officials are also working on restoring electricity and clearing blocked routes. The scale of the devastation has led to calls for better early warning systems and storm preparedness.

District-wise fatalities include five each in Kasganj and Fatehpur, four each in Meerut and Auraiya, three in Bulandshahr and Kanpur Nagar, and several more across Ghaziabad, Etawah, Noida, and other regions. The total death toll currently stands at 50, with dozens more injured or displaced.
