CM Mamata boycotts NITI Aayog meet over past mic snub

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will not attend the NITI Aayog meeting scheduled today in New Delhi, which is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and includes chief ministers from all states. The meeting’s theme is ‘Developed States for a Developed India @2047’ and aims to focus on the role of states in contributing to India’s development by the year 2047. The Governing Council is set to discuss the vision and strategies for achieving developed states aligned with national progress.

Mamata Banerjee’s decision to stay away comes after her experience in the previous NITI Aayog meeting, where she alleged that she was not given adequate opportunity to speak. She claimed that the microphone was switched off during her speech, which led her to leave the meeting hall in protest. In response, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman rejected the allegations, stating that Mamata was given the opportunity to speak within the allocated time.

The NITI Aayog meeting brings together state leaders to deliberate on development policies with a focus on state-led growth initiatives. The meeting’s discussions are expected to cover the role of states in accelerating development and transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, emphasizing cooperation between the central government and states to achieve these goals.
