A 21-year-old Covid-19 patient with severe diabetes died in Thane on Saturday, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) confirmed. The young man was admitted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital at Kalwa on Thursday due to diabetes complications, and tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday night. His death is attributed to comorbidities related to his underlying condition.
Thane currently has 18 active Covid-19 cases, with the majority of patients isolating at home. Only one patient is currently receiving hospital treatment, and all are reported to be in stable condition. The municipal corporation has taken steps to monitor and manage the situation closely.
The hospital has set up a dedicated 19-bed ward for Covid-19 patients equipped with RT-PCR testing facilities to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment. Health officials also reported maintaining sufficient stocks of medicines and Covid testing kits at all health centers.
In a high-level review meeting on Friday, TMC officials expressed confidence that the Covid situation in the city remains under control and appealed to the public to stay calm and follow health guidelines. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Chetna Nitil reassured that preparedness measures are in place to handle any surge in cases.
