Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a meeting with NDA leaders in Delhi, expressed concern over a series of controversial statements made by party functionaries and advised them to avoid making reckless public comments. The meeting, attended by chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from NDA-ruled states, focused on good governance and party discipline.
Modi’s message was clear: refrain from speaking unnecessarily, especially on sensitive national matters. The advisory comes in the wake of inflammatory comments made by BJP leaders from Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, which led to widespread criticism. Without naming individuals, Modi warned that such remarks damage the party’s image and distract from the core governance agenda.
Referring to the Operation Sindoor ceasefire, the Prime Minister clarified that the decision to halt the operation came at Pakistan’s request and denied the involvement of any third party. This clarification followed misleading and communal statements by party members that triggered national outrage and fuelled opposition protests.
Among the most controversial remarks was from BJP MLA Vijay Shah, who insulted a decorated Army officer, Colonel Sofia Qureshi, with a communal jibe. Additionally, Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda was slammed for suggesting the armed forces should bow before the Prime Minister. The Congress has called these statements shameful and announced state-level protests demanding accountability.
