A section of a brick wall collapsed at a brick kiln in Langalpota, Rajarhat, early Monday morning, killing one labourer and injuring four others. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. while workers were moving bricks outside the kiln. The deceased has been identified as Bittu Linda, 18, a resident of Ranchi. He was brought to Rizwani Primary Health Centre, where he was declared dead.
Four others were injured in the collapse — Pintu Mondal, Shefali Mondal, Sohel Khan, and Sarita Oraon. Among them, Pintu Mondal and Shefali Mondal were referred to RG Kar Hospital in critical condition. Sohel Khan and Sarita Oraon sustained minor injuries and were discharged after treatment at the primary health centre.
Local sources stated that the workers were engaged in routine duties when the wall gave way. No official statement has been issued yet regarding the cause of the collapse or safety measures at the kiln. An investigation into the incident is likely.
