Baruipur police in South 24 Parganas arrested three individuals involved in marijuana smuggling after recovering approximately 35 kilograms of the drug from a trolley bag. The seizure took place near an under-construction water tank at Shasan bypass, following a tip-off. Along with the marijuana, the police seized three mobile phones and Rs. 2,270 in cash from the suspects.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdul Basar Mandal alias Khokon from Suryapur, and Laden Haq and Mrinal Haq from Dinhata in Cooch Behar district. They were traveling from Sealdah station to Shasan station via Laxmikantpur local train. Police stated that two of the accused planned to sell the marijuana in Suryapur and that the group has been involved in narcotics trade for a significant period.
Police are investigating the extent of the drug trafficking network and other possible accomplices. The arrested individuals were produced in court on Tuesday. Authorities are also examining how the railway route is being exploited for drug smuggling and are continuing efforts to curb such illegal activities in the region.
