The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday night thwarted an infiltration attempt by 13 Bangladeshi nationals at the India-Bangladesh border in North Bengal’s Cooch Behar district. According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, the incident took place near the Sitalkuchi and Sitai borders. Troops from the BSF’s 78th Battalion, stationed at Padma and Sitai camps, intercepted the group as they tried to enter Indian territory illegally.
BSF personnel acted promptly and apprehended the group near the border fence before they could cross over. Upon being stopped, the individuals attempted to return to Bangladesh. However, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) refused to accept them back, resulting in the group being stranded in the narrow stretch of 'No Man’s Land' between the two countries.
Following the incident, BSF has heightened security in the area to prevent any further infiltration. Surveillance has been strengthened along the border, and troops have been directed to maintain strict vigilance. Meanwhile, BGB has also deployed personnel to monitor their side of the boundary closely.
