The India Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for May 29 in nine districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, West Medinipur, and Bardhaman. These areas are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 40 to 50 km/h. Other districts in South Bengal may also witness scattered heavy rainfall with winds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h.
Authorities have been advised to remain on alert, and residents have been requested to avoid stepping outdoors unless necessary. The alert has been issued in anticipation of severe weather conditions that may lead to localised waterlogging, disruption in movement, and temporary hazards. The situation is being closely monitored, and precautionary measures have been initiated in vulnerable regions.
