The Kolkata police are expected to file a chargesheet this week against two brothers, Pranay Dey and Prasoon Dey, in connection with the Tangra triple murder case. The charges include the murder of three family members and an attempted suicide. The statement of their minor son, recorded at the hospital, is a key piece of evidence in the case.
The incident occurred on February 19 when the brothers attempted suicide by crashing their car into a metro rail pillar near the bypass. The minor son was present in the car during the crash. Following the accident, police recovered the bodies of Pranay Dey’s wife Sudeshna Dey, Prasoon Dey’s wife Romi, and their daughter Priyambada from the Tangra family residence.
Investigation revealed that the Dey family was engaged in leather manufacturing and gloves export business, which was facing significant financial difficulties. The business was reportedly incurring losses, placing substantial economic pressure on the two brothers. This financial situation is part of the police records in the case.
The minor son’s statement, recorded at NRS Hospital where he was admitted after the crash, contains important details. According to police, the boy did not witness the murders but saw the victims lying in a blood-soaked room. He also told investigators that his uncle tried to strangle him, similar to the attack on his sister Priyambada. The boy survived by holding his breath, and when the uncle attempted to cut his wrist, his father intervened.
Police sources stated that the minor’s statement has helped clarify several aspects of the case and revealed key information about the sequence of events and the alleged conspiracy. In addition to the son’s testimony, statements from factory employees and relatives are being included in the chargesheet.
The chargesheet is expected to be filed at Sealdah court later this week. The case continues to attract attention as authorities prepare for the next stage of judicial proceedings.
