6 jobless teachers detained 100m from CM’s house while seeking reinstatement without re-exam

On Thursday at around 9 AM, six women who were previously employed as schoolteachers and claim to have qualified in the state’s recruitment process reached Kalighat with the intention of meeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at her residence. They were stopped by Kalighat Police personnel approximately 100 metres from the Chief Minister’s house and taken to Kalighat Police Station.

The teachers were part of a delegation seeking legal reinstatement into their previous posts without being required to sit for a re-examination. They also demanded that the government engage in direct dialogue with them before issuing any new recruitment notification related to school jobs.

The six teachers detained were identified as Sangeeta Saha, Rupa Karmakar, Smarti Roy, Noor Amina Gulshan, Shilpi Chakraborty, and Sahani Naznin. Their protest adds to the list of actions taken by terminated or disqualified candidates raising demands linked to the school recruitment process in West Bengal.
