Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital is set to install the first government-supported medical robot in eastern India, marking a significant development in the region’s healthcare infrastructure. The installation of this robotic system aims to enhance surgical precision and improve patient care through advanced technology. The initiative is backed by the West Bengal government as part of its effort to modernize medical facilities.
As part of the project, six medical professionals, including Dr. Siraj Ahmed and four senior professors, have been selected by the state government for specialized robotic surgery training abroad. Dr. Ahmed stated, “I consider myself fortunate to be among those chosen for this training, which will provide valuable expertise for robotic-assisted surgeries at the hospital.” The training is intended to build technical capacity for the effective use of the robotic system once installed.
The robotic system at SSKM Hospital is expected to support minimally invasive surgical procedures, which can lead to reduced recovery times and better outcomes. The hospital is preparing for the integration of this technology into its surgical departments, with the goal of expanding access to advanced medical care in West Bengal.
