South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
Mohammad Salim, an undertrial prisoner lodged in Howrah's Jail for the past four years, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Saturday morning. He had been arrested by B Garden Police Station in 2021 in connection with a murder case and had remained in judicial custody since then. Jail officials reported his death in the morning, but the cause has not been officially disclosed. A post-mortem examination has been ordered to determine the exact reason for death.
Following the incident, Salim’s family members arrived at the jail and alleged that he had been murdered. They have demanded a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Jail and police authorities have taken note of the complaint, and preliminary inquiries have been initiated. Senior officials are expected to review the incident and submit a report.
