South Bengal gets new rail connectivity: Purulia-Bankura-Howrah MEMU service inaugurated today
A tragic accident occurred late Sunday night in Rajarhat’s Rezwani area, resulting in the death of Pooja Saha, an 18-year-old higher secondary student and resident of the Airport police station jurisdiction. Pooja was riding a scooty with her male friend, Subhankar Bhowmik, when the incident took place.
According to Subhankar’s statement to police, Pooja asked to learn how to ride the scooty, and he agreed to let her drive while he sat behind her. While riding at high speed, Pooja reportedly accelerated unintentionally, lost control of the vehicle after hitting a speed breaker, and the scooty flipped, throwing her off the vehicle. The scooty eventually landed in a nearby bushy area.
Local residents found Pooja in a severely injured and bleeding condition and immediately took her to a private hospital near VIP Road, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival. Police confirmed that Pooja was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, while her friend Subhankar wore one and sustained only minor injuries.
The Rajarhat police have seized the scooty and registered a case of unnatural death. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and whether any other factors contributed to the fatality.
