India’s active Covid-19 cases have climbed to 3,961, with Delhi reporting the highest single-day jump of 47 new infections on Monday. This brings the capital’s total active caseload to 483, along with one more reported death — a 22-year-old woman with a pre-existing lung condition.
Kerala remains the worst-affected state, contributing 1,435 active cases to the national tally. Other high-burden states include Maharashtra with 506 cases, West Bengal with 339, and Gujarat with 338. The total rise of 203 cases across the country in 24 hours has sparked renewed attention from health officials.
Authorities maintain there is no immediate cause for alarm. Most infections continue to be mild, and patients are recovering under home isolation. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has confirmed that the current surge is being driven by Omicron subvariants — LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1 — none of which are linked to severe illness.
Experts say the situation is being monitored closely, and there is no indication of a nationwide resurgence at this time.
