Panic gripped Mayrachak village in the Kultali area of South 24 Parganas after a crocodile was spotted in a local pond. Resident Dilip Dalui first saw a large crocodile entering his pond and immediately alerted the Forest Department. Responding swiftly to the information, a team from the Forest Department arrived at the scene.
They worked tirelessly through the night, using pumps to drain water from the pond and setting up nets to trap the reptile. Their efforts proved successful, and finally, around 5:30 AM, a crocodile measuring approximately five and a half feet in length was successfully captured. The operation was carried out safely, ensuring no harm came to the animal.
Forest Department officials confirmed that the captured crocodile will be safely released into the deep forests of the Sunderbans. This measure ensures the animal's well-being and its return to its natural habitat, away from human habitation.
The incident caused considerable apprehension among the villagers, who were relieved once the crocodile was safely caught. The Forest Department's prompt response and efficient handling of the situation were commended by the local community.
