FIR filed against RCB, event organisers, and KSCA over Bengaluru IPL stampede tragedy

An FIR has been registered against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and event management agency DNA following a tragic stampede during an IPL celebration in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The incident, which occurred near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, claimed 11 lives and injured dozens more.

The Cubbon Park Police booked the parties under charges of criminal negligence, citing lapses in crowd control and event planning. The Karnataka High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the tragedy and directed the state government to file a status report outlining the causes of the stampede and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

In response, RCB has announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each of the deceased's families and launched a dedicated relief fund called "RCB Cares" for those injured. The Karnataka government has also declared an ex gratia of ₹10 lakh for the victims' families. RCB, in a statement, expressed grief and called the incident “a moment of deep sorrow for the entire RCB family.”

Most of the injured have now been discharged from hospitals, with only two individuals under observation and reported to be stable. Investigations are underway to fix accountability and assess the failure in managing crowd safety during the high-profile public event.
