Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal on Thursday appeared before the police in Bolpur, West Bengal, for questioning in connection with a controversial audio clip in which he is allegedly heard using derogatory and threatening language against a police officer.
Mondal, who had earlier skipped two summons citing health issues, reached the sub-divisional police officer’s (SDPO) office around 3:30 pm. The police had issued a second notice after his legal team appeared in his place last weekend.
The controversy erupted after an audio recording, purportedly featuring Mondal, went viral on social media. In the clip, he is allegedly heard threatening an officer named Halder and making derogatory comments about women. The TMC condemned the language used, distanced itself from the remarks, and called them “unacceptable.”
Facing mounting public pressure, Mondal issued a written apology, claiming he never intended to insult the police. An FIR has been filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway.
