A large-scale Bhagavad Gita recital event is scheduled for December 7 at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground, targeting a gathering of five lakh participants. Organised by Sanatan Sanskriti Manch along with several allied Hindu organisations, the event aims to bring devotees together for a collective chanting of the sacred scripture. Last year, a similar event called Lakh Kanth Gita Path was held at the same venue on December 24, with nearly one lakh people participating.
The announcement came from Kartik Maharaj of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Beldanga unit in Murshidabad. He clarified that the event is purely spiritual and said, “This programme has no connection with politics.” The timing of the event, just ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, has drawn attention in political circles, but organisers maintain its religious purpose.
Preparations for the event are ongoing with multiple Hindu groups coordinating logistics, crowd management, and devotional activities. The organisers plan to issue detailed instructions for attendees to ensure smooth conduct. This event is expected to be one of the largest gatherings for Gita recitation in recent years in the state.
