Murli Dhar made Barrackpore Commissioner, Ajay Thakur made DIG CID

The West Bengal government has appointed Murli Dhar, IPS, as the new Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore Police Commissionerate in the rank of Inspector General (IG). Dhar was serving as Director of SVSPA (Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy), Barrackpore, and Inspector General, Training, West Bengal prior to this posting. The notification regarding the transfer was issued on June 9, 2025, by the Police Service Cell of the Home & Hill Affairs Department.

Ajay Kumar Thakur, IPS, who was the Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore Police Commissionerate in the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG), has been transferred and appointed as DIG, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), West Bengal. Thakur’s new assignment places him in one of the key investigative wings of the West Bengal Police.

According to Org. No. 1203 - IPS Cell dated June 9, 2025, the transfers take effect from the date of assuming charge and will remain valid until further orders. The information has been circulated to all senior officials including all DGPs, ADGPs, IGPs, DIGs, SPs, SRPs, Commissioners of all Police Commissionerates in the state, and other relevant departments and directorates.
