"Kaanta laga" fame Shefali Jariwala passes away at 42; Cardiac arrest suspected
External affairs minister S Jaishankar has sent a strong message to China, stating it cannot afford “ambiguity or double standards” in the global fight against terrorism, particularly given its deep ties with Pakistan. Speaking during a visit to Belgium and France, Jaishankar emphasized that terrorism is a universal problem, and nations must act with clarity and consistency.
In an interview with a French newspaper, he reiterated India’s position of zero tolerance towards terrorism and stated that India would strike back “wherever terrorists are, including in Pakistan”. Referring to recent military action, he clarified that the strikes were a response to terrorism, not a dispute over Kashmir.
He also pointed out that the international community has broadly supported India’s right to self-defence, especially after the April 22 Pahalgam attack. He confirmed that retaliatory strikes on May 7 targeted terrorist bases, underlining India’s firm policy of pursuing justice.
Touching on India-China relations, Jaishankar said peace in border areas is essential for broader ties. He also noted the strategic complexity in the Indo-Pacific, unresolved border issues, and the need for balance between the two rising powers. Regarding global issues, he said India supports peaceful resolution in Ukraine and won’t take sides, calling for urgent negotiation to end the war.
