In a disturbing case from Karnataka’s Hassan district, a woman named Chaitra has been arrested for allegedly trying to poison her entire family — including her husband, two children, and mother-in-law — in order to continue an illicit affair. The attempt was reportedly made by lacing food and coffee with toxic pills. The victims, after consuming the meal, suffered severe stomach pain and were taken to the hospital where doctors initially suspected food poisoning.
Chaitra had been married to Gajendra for 11 years and has two children aged eight and ten. According to police, she had rekindled a secret relationship with a man named Shivu, despite a previous affair being settled by community elders. Fearing that her family might hinder her current affair, she allegedly conspired to eliminate them.
The matter came to light when Gajendra, suspecting foul play, approached Belur Police Station. Investigations confirmed that the food had been deliberately poisoned. Chaitra was arrested and interrogated, while Shivu, her alleged partner, remains absconding. Police have officially named him a co-accused and continue their search.
Authorities also confirmed that Chaitra had been regularly mixing different pills and chemical substances into the meals. An FIR has been registered, and further forensic analysis is underway. The family, meanwhile, is recovering and remains under observation.
