“Not allowed to know the truth”: Congress slams Bengal govt after Maheshtala visit blocked

Tensions flared on Friday as a Congress delegation, led by West Bengal Pradesh Congress President Shubhankar Sarkar, was stopped by police from entering Rabindranagar area in Maheshtala. The team had arrived to meet victims and assess the situation following a recent incident that has sparked political outrage in the state.

The police did not permit the delegation to proceed further, citing undisclosed reasons. This led to a heated exchange between the Congress leaders and local authorities at the spot. Sarkar strongly condemned the move, saying it was an attempt to prevent the opposition from learning the ground reality.

“This is a direct attack on democracy. The police should act independently, not under government pressure,” Sarkar said. The Congress has alleged that the state administration is deliberately suppressing information and blocking opposition access to sensitive areas.

The incident has further intensified political clashes, with the opposition accusing the ruling dispensation of hiding the truth behind the Maheshtala episode.
