A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), along with officials from other central agencies, visited the site of the devastating Ahmedabad plane crash on Friday. The Air India Dreamliner AI171 had crashed into a medical college complex on Thursday afternoon, killing 241 people onboard. Only one passenger survived and remains in critical condition.
The crash involved a Boeing 787 aircraft, which had taken off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport en route to London. The aircraft plunged just minutes after takeoff, leading to a massive explosion and fire that engulfed a section of the college infrastructure.
Officials from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) have also started a parallel probe into the accident. The AAIB is responsible for determining the cause of aviation incidents and has begun the process of collecting black box data and interviewing key personnel.
The presence of the NIA has added a layer of gravity to the investigation, though officials have not commented on any specific threat indicators so far. The coordinated investigation will now examine technical, security, and operational factors behind the fatal crash.
