Political tempers flared once again in West Bengal as Trinamool Congress district president Abdur Rahim Bakshi made a provocative comment about Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari during a public rally in Malda. Referring to him as a “mad elephant”, Bakshi said that “such an elephant can only be controlled by tying it with a chain.”
The remark has triggered sharp reactions, further fuelling the ongoing war of words between the ruling TMC and the BJP. While TMC leaders claim the comment reflects growing frustration with Adhikari’s “divisive” politics, BJP supporters have termed the statement as disrespectful and threatening.
Bakshi’s controversial metaphor comes amid a tense political climate in Bengal, where both parties are preparing for key political battles ahead. His comment is being seen as part of a larger strategy to attack the Opposition's rhetoric by matching provocation with provocation.
So far, there has been no formal response from Suvendu Adhikari, but BJP insiders suggest the party is likely to raise the issue both politically and legally.
