Political tensions have flared up yet again, with Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale leveling serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party. In a strongly worded tweet, Gokhale claimed that BJP continues to exhibit hatred towards the Sikh community, right from the time of the farmers’ protests to the present day.
Gokhale has alleged that Union Minister and BJP’s West Bengal unit president Dr. Sukanta Majumdar hurled a slipper that landed on the turban of a Sikh police officer during a scuffle at Kolkata airport. The incident has not been officially confirmed but has stirred a fresh round of controversy. Gokhale also revived an earlier accusation from 2023 where BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari allegedly called a Sikh officer “Khalistani” during a public altercation.
Tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gokhale has questioned whether the PM will seek Dr. Majumdar’s resignation over the alleged insult. “Bengal will never tolerate the humiliation of the Sikh community,” he said. The BJP is yet to respond to these allegations, but the matter is likely to spark a political storm, especially with emotions around religious identity running high.
