CM Mamata visits Khidirpur fire site, announces compensation and assures market rebuild

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Khidirpur on Monday afternoon to assess the aftermath of a devastating fire that engulfed a section of the local market. After meeting affected vendors and officials at the site, she announced compensation of ₹1 lakh for those whose shops were completely gutted and ₹50,000 for partially damaged ones.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to temporarily relocate the market to a new location to ensure the affected shopkeepers can resume business. She assured that the original market will be rebuilt in a planned manner with enhanced safety measures.

Banerjee highlighted the cause of the fire, pointing to LPG cylinders stored in the market. “This could have been even more dangerous. We must be cautious about keeping LPG cylinders in such congested spaces,” she said.

She added that the administration will coordinate with local stakeholders to ensure smooth disbursement of aid and swift action on rebuilding the market infrastructure.
