In a major crackdown on cyber fraud, police from Baguiati police station raided two fake call centers operating in the Chinar Park area late Tuesday night. Six people, including three women and the owner of the setup, have been arrested. The operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs.
According to investigators, these call centers lured people by offering fake loan and insurance schemes. Victims were first convinced to pay small token amounts, and then progressively larger sums were extracted under various pretexts. Once payments were made, all communication was abruptly cut off.
During the raid, police recovered 50 keypad phones, several laptops, and critical digital documents. The seized evidence is currently being analyzed by the cyber crime team. Officials suspect the network may have connections in other states.
All six accused were produced before the Barasat court on Wednesday. Police have sought custody for further interrogation to uncover the full extent of the racket and trace its wider links.
