Bidhannagar City Police have successfully busted a fake call center operating out of Srishti Apartment under the Baguiati police station's jurisdiction. Acting on precise intelligence, a dedicated team conducted a raid that exposed a sophisticated scam targeting vulnerable individuals across various states, promising low-interest loans only to defraud them of their hard-earned money. This decisive action has led to the arrest of six individuals, bringing a measure of justice to those who fell victim to this deceptive scheme.
The operation was initiated following a suo motu complaint, leading to the registration of Case No. 382/2025 at Baguiati Police Station. The police had been meticulously gathering information about the illicit activities, which involved cold-calling marginalized communities with enticing offers of easy credit, preying on their financial needs and lack of awareness.
During the raid, the police team recovered a substantial cache of electronic equipment, including numerous laptops, mobile phones, and other crucial devices. These tools were instrumental in the fraudsters' operations, facilitating their communication with victims and managing their deceptive network. The recovered items are now key evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused individuals systematically contacted people from economically weaker sections, luring them with the promise of quick and low-interest loans. Once trust was established, they would then demand various upfront fees or processing charges, effectively siphoning off the victims' money without ever disbursing any loans.
All six arrested individuals were produced before the Honourable Court today. The court, recognizing the gravity of the offenses and the need for a thorough investigation, granted the police a seven-day remand for each of the accused. This period will allow investigators to delve deeper into the nexus, identify other potential accomplices, and uncover the full extent of the fraudulent network.
