Nine people were killed in a horrific head-on collision between a truck and a car in West Bengal's Purulia district on Friday morning. The accident occurred around 6:30 AM on National Highway 18 in Namshol village, falling under the jurisdiction of Balarampur Police Station. All occupants of the ill-fated four-wheeler perished in the devastating impact.
According to Soumyadeep Mallick, the officer-in-charge of Balarampur Police Station, the collision involved an SUV and a truck. "The head-on collision took place between an SUV and a truck on the highway, killing all nine occupants of the four-wheeler," Mallick confirmed. Police have initiated further investigations to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
Preliminary reports suggest that the victims were returning from a wedding ceremony. They reportedly hailed from Adabana village in the Barabazar police station area of Purulia and were en route to Tilaitand in the Nimdih police station area of Jharkhand when their vehicle collided with an oncoming truck. The severity of the impact was such that the SUV was mangled beyond recognition, highlighting the brutal force of the crash.
Residents and emergency services rushed to the scene immediately after the accident. The injured were swiftly transported to a nearby primary health center, but unfortunately, all nine individuals were declared dead upon arrival by the doctors.
